Recipe #25: Sugar Cookie
This is my go to recipe for making sugar cookies. It does not require refrigerating and perfectly keeps shape.
INGREDIENTS
Butter - 1/2 cup (or 2sticks - butter should be soft -not necessarily melted)
Sugar - 1 cup
Egg - 1
Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
All purpose flour - 3 cups
Baking Powder- 1 tsp
METHOD
- First beat together butter and sugar
- Once this mixture is creamy, break an egg into the mixture and add the vanilla extract.
- Mix well and add flour and baking powder.
Note 1: For this recipe you don’t have to refrigerate dough before baking (some recipes do require cooling step to keep the shape)
Note 2: The consistency of the dough has to be slightly crumbly. When you handle the dough more the butter will melt more and be less crumbly.
Note 3: You can add more butter or flour to adjust the texture, but I have never had to.
Note 4: You can split the dough into parts and add food color to make colorful versions.
- Roll out into a thick layer (1/4 inch) and cut into any shape using a cookie cutter.
- Bake at 350 for 10 mins. Smaller cookies take less time and larger ones take a bit longer (15mins).
- The bottom of the cookie should brown ever so lightly.
